Local Events

WHAT’s ON?

Gibraltar is a place where cultures mix and blend seamlessly together and there’s never a dull moment. Over the years various events have become fixed into our annual calendars. Locals and visitors alike come together to enjoy a variety of cultural occasions.

These are just a few of the most popular:

Gibraltar National Day

A celebration of Gibraltar’s uniqueness and Britishness. Everyone, and I mean everyone is on the streets partying wearing the national colours of red and white.

Gibraltar Music Festival (GMF)

Takes place in the Victoria Stadium the weekend before National Day. It is a two day music marathon of a wonderful mix of music. Past headliners have included; Kings of Leon, Jessy Jay, Madness, Duran Duran and Little Mix.

Gibraltar Literary Festival

Held in some of the most iconic locations around Gibraltar over a weekend in November, the festival attracts such speakers as Maureen Lipman, Anthony Worrall Thompson, Marcus Brigstocke and Nicholas Parsons

Chess Festival

The Gibraltar International Chess Festival, now one of the most prestigious open tournaments in the world, began as a much smaller event in 2003. Its popularity has grown year on year, and players of all levels, from all corners of the world return to the Rock every January for this major event.

Venue: Caleta Hotel, Catalan Bay

CALENTITA FOOD FESTIVAL

Held in mid June, Calentita has grown from being a food festival to being a cultural event supporting and promoting many areas of home grown talent – from photography, to poetry, journalism, dance and music.
